What is Transit?
TermStar – is a Transit-integrated terminology database management system.
Full functionality
- The structure of the base corresponds to the last lexicography achievements. The user can use all the predefined fields or any combination of them and, when necessary, add custom fields.
- Every predefined field can be renamed.
- Special field for phonetic transcription.
- Absolutely multilingual. The number of languages in the base is not limited.
- Flexible selection of sorting criteria.
- A possibility to create extracts from the dictionary. For example, you can extract all the terms connected with a block, or all the words with abbreviations.
- A possibility to select the data from the input list. For example, you can create a list of abbreviations for parts of speech or an hierarchical classification of blocks and parts.
- A possibility to work with several physical databases simultaneously. Terms from all the bases are automatically grouped, sorted and output as if they were from one base. The information about the origin of the term is displayed in the status line.
You can use, for example, the following set of dictionaries:
- corporate (on the file server);
- third-party (on CD of file-server);
- personal (local for every translator).
User-friendly interface
- Easy to use "WYSIWYG"-presentation of the dictionary familiar to most users. It takes less than no time to get used to it.
- Convenient search and navigation system.
- Automate cross-reference generation.
- Index and sequential search.
- The information on the time and identifier of the person who created of changed the record are saved automatically.

Easy settings
- Translation in any language from the base can be shown. You can select any number of languages to be shown. For example, you can see the translations from German into Russian and English at the same time.
- You can fully customise your work zone. Fonts, colours, output formats - everything is in your power.
- Depending on the set of fields you need or on how full the information is to be presented you can define five configurations and then easily switch between them.
- For every user there is an individual settings file. You need not worry that your familiar interface will be modified by someone in your absence.
- At the moment English, German and French interfaces are supported.
Support for electronic and paper media
TermStar has a special page layout designer. If you wish to print the dictionaries it helps you to create your own page layout that will satisfy even the most demanding customers.
With TermStar you can easily make extracts and subsets of the terminology database – in electronic format as well as printed versions (for example, lists of abbreviations, specialised dictionaries on selected topics, project dictionaries).
Team work opportunity
TermStar offers wide opportunities for team work. Members of the group can be located in one office as well as in different countries. If the office has a local network, any registered user can get access to the terminology database and, if necessary, add information into it. If the terminology for some language is created not in the head office of the company, but in a foreign branch the bases can be quickly synchronised to keep both versions up-to-date.
Openness
TermStar has a perfect mechanism for data import and export. You can always use in TermStar your data, collected in other software and vice versa. Quite naturally, every TermStar database is compatible with any TermStar database, created by another user. These bases can be used simultaneously in the same project or, in case of need, be physically merged.
Data protection
You need not worry about the security of your investments into terminology database development. TermStar offers safe mechanism of protection from unauthorised use (modification, export, printing).
Where do dictionaries come from
There are different ways of getting TermStar dictionaries. You can:
- Create a dictionary during the translation work.
- Create a dictionary on the basis of your resources in other software (for example, you can import a dictionary, typed in a word processor). You can do it yourself, but we are always glad to help you with it.
- Import into TermStar data from terminology base, created by a third party.
- Order a dictionary from our company (see Services).
